Crowns
Crowns are used to restore teeth that are broken or where the decay is so significant that a filling would not be able to be supported by the tooth. Dental crowns are tooth shaped caps that fit over the tooth. The crown restores the tooth’s shape, size, strength and appearance.
Why Do I Need a Crown?
A crown may be necessary if:
- You have a broken tooth
- To restore a tooth with heavy fractures
- For a tooth with a cavity that is too large to treat with a filling
- To cover a dental implant
- After a root canal treatment
Bridge
What is a dental bridge? If you have one or more missing teeth, a dental bridge can fill the gap with one or more artificial (false) teeth. A bridge is typically made of crowns on either side of the missing tooth or teeth supporting the pontic (false tooth) and is cemented in place.
How is A Dental Bridge Different From a Crown?
Dr. Overberg will recommend a crown to restore a tooth with a structural problem that is affecting a single tooth. A bridge, however, is used to restore one or more missing teeth.
Benefits Of A Bridge:
Filling the space left by a missing tooth is beneficial to your overall oral health, as well as the aesthetic of your smile. Dental bridges have certain advantages, such as:
- Solid, stable tooth replacement
- Clearer, more articulate speech
- Better ability to chew
- Better alignment
A dental bridge can also work to combat the body’s biological response to tooth loss. The prosthetic prevents your other teeth from shifting within the mouth and helps to retain a natural, healthy structure
